Parhelia (1996)
for orchestra
Duration: 9'

Occasionally, a title will present itself before a piece is written and even inspire the content of the work. Parhelia are bright spots appearing on a luminous halo around the sun. This image gave me all the catalyst I needed to conceptualize the structure for this work for orchestra. The fury of the sun’s fire dominates the texture of the piece as in the churning strings at the outset, broken up by periodic recognition of the halo’s bright spots (woodwinds and piano).
